XGN15-12 Box Type Fixed AC Metal Enclosed Switchgear uses SF6 switch as main switch and the whole cabinet is air insulated, which is applied in distribution automation, compact and extensible metal sealed switch equipment.

XGN15-12 box-type fixed AC metal-enclosed switchgear uses an SF6 load break switch as its main switch inside an air-insulated cabinet — a compact, extensible, metal-sealed unit built for distribution automation at 12 kV. Simple structure, flexible operation, reliable interlocks, and straightforward installation make it the practical answer for ring network positions and transformer protection points where drawout maintainability is not the priority.

- Modular design. Each unit module can be combined and extended arbitrarily, which is an easy to scheme combination, with a wide applicable range.
- The armored structure is used for the cabinet. And each compartment is separated from the other one by metal partition board.
- The corrosion resistant metal is used for the operating mechanism, and bearings of rotating parts are all self-lubricating bearings. The product will not be affected by the environment, thus exempting it from regular maintenance.
- In order to adapt to the power grid automation and improve the reliability of power distribution, the electric drive mechanism, control terminal unit of power distribution network and other equipment can be added. Thus, it possesses telemetering, remote signaling, and remote-control systems.
- The cabinet is compact in design, using three- a three-position rotary load switch, which effectively reduces the number of components and parts, and realizes the five-preventions interlocking.
- The simulated single-line diagram of the primary circuit and analog display can display the internal conditions of the switch so that the operation can be simple, correct, and safe.

Fixed XGN15-12 units are compact and economical for ring and terminal positions where the switching element is a load switch, not a fault-rated drawout breaker; removable metal-clad panels like KYN28 belong where breaker maintenance continuity justifies their cost. Many networks use both — metal-clad at the substation, fixed units out on the ring.
What role does the SF6 load switch play?
It is the working switch of the unit: a three-position device that closes, opens, and earths the circuit within its sealed volume, switching load currents and cable charging currents while switch-fuse combinations or breakers handle transformer protection duty upstream in the scheme.
Is SF6 still the right choice today?
