Dry Type Transformer

Dry Type Transformer

A dry type transformer transfers power with air-cooled windings — no oil, no containment pit, no fluid sampling programme. Cast resin encapsulated or VPI (vacuum pressure impregnated) coils make it the default choice indoors: electrical rooms of commercial towers, data halls, tunnels, marine platforms and any site where a fluid leak or added fire load is unacceptable.

We manufacture dry type transformers in both coil constructions, from low-voltage control duty up to medium-voltage distribution ratings, matched to your voltage ratio, impedance and vector group. The plant behind this site has wound, impregnated and oven-cured transformers since 2010 — more than 4,000 delivered projects — and routine-tests every unit before dispatch.

Domande frequenti

Cast resin or VPI — which construction fits my application?

Cast resin encapsulates each coil in solid resin, giving the best moisture, fire and pollution behaviour — preferred in tunnels, marine and high-rise risers. VPI open-wound units cost less and are easier to repair, which suits general industrial rooms with controlled air. Share your installation environment and we will quote the construction that serves it best.

Are dry type transformers suitable for outdoor installation?

Indoor duty is the norm, but an IP54-or-better enclosure with anti-condensation heaters makes outdoor service practical for pad locations without fluid handling. Coastal and heavy-pollution sites deserve cast resin with a marinised coating package. We configure the enclosure to your site conditions rather than a one-size answer.

What maintenance does a dry type unit need?

Far less than oil-filled equipment: periodic cleaning of winding dust, checking of fans and temperature controllers, and insulation-resistance measurement during shutdowns. There is no oil to sample or treat. We supply a maintenance schedule with every unit so your team knows exactly what to inspect and when.

Can you match an existing transformer for a plant expansion?

Yes — matching voltage ratio, impedance and vector group to units already on your bus keeps parallel operation and load sharing predictable. Send the nameplate data of the running transformers and our engineers will confirm the matching design in writing before production.
