Power Distribution Panel Selection: Source, Feeders, Protection, and Space Inputs

Painel de distribuição metal-enclosed vs. metal-clad

Start with the distribution schedule

A power distribution panel must be selected from the source, load schedule, feeder count, fault duty, protection, metering, cable entry, and maintenance requirements. Nominal current alone is not enough to define a suitable panel.

Inputs to collect

InputWhy it matters
Source voltage and fault dataEstablishes equipment duty and coordination basis
Feeder loads and future waysDefines bus, devices, spare capacity, and heat
Isolation and protectionSets operating and maintenance boundaries
Metering and communicationDefines CTs, meters, alarms, and remote signals
Enclosure environmentAffects indoor/outdoor construction, cooling, and access
Transformer and downstream interfacesCoordinates the complete distribution package

Scope boundary

Request the single-line diagram, load schedule, fault study, layout, cable entry, labeling, drawings, and test requirements. This article does not assign a rating or protection setting; the responsible engineer must approve the final panel.
