NEMA and IP Ratings for Submersion: Depth, Duration, and Evidence Inputs

Classificações NEMA para armários

This guide supports planning and procurement. Confirm the final enclosure, material, rating, installation, and compliance requirements against project data, approved drawings, and supplier evidence.

State the submersion condition

NEMA and IP systems use different terminology and test scopes. A submersion enquiry should state depth, duration, medium, temperature, cable interfaces, access, and whether the equipment is energized.

Questions before specifying

InputWhy it matters
Depth and durationDefines the exposure to be supported by evidence.
Medium and corrosionInfluences material, gasket, fasteners, cables, and finish.
Entries and connectorsCan limit the complete assembly even when the enclosure body is tested.
Recovery and serviceDefines inspection, re-sealing, isolation, and maintenance responsibility.

Ask the supplier to identify the tested configuration and limitations. Do not convert NEMA and IP labels as if they were automatically equivalent.

Use these inputs to prepare an evidence-based enquiry and confirm the final configuration with the responsible engineer and supplier.
