    NEMA enclosure ratings, defined in NEMA 250, grade environmental protection by type: from indoor Type 1 contact protection through weather-resistant 3R, wash-down 4 and 4X, dust-classified 5 and 12, oil-spray 13, to submersion-capable 6 and 6P. Choosing the type is choosing the environments the cabinet is proven for.

    NEMA 12 等级： 

    NEMA 12 机柜 是专为一般用途设计的室内机柜，其保护程度高于 1 类或 2 类。

    • 室内/室外室内
    • 固体侵入防护：落尘、循环灰尘、绒毛、纤维、飞尘
    • 防水保护：滴水、轻微溅水
    • 其他保护特性：无
    • 它与 NEMA 3 类似，但适用于室内，因此不是防止风吹灰尘，而是防止空气中的灰尘、绒毛和纤维沉降。

    How do NEMA types map to IP codes?

    One way only: a NEMA type implies certain IP-level capabilities (Type 4 is commonly compared to IP66), but IP codes do not back-fill NEMA requirements like corrosion or ice tests. Use our mapping guide for planning.

    Type 12 or Type 1 for a clean electrical room?

    Type 1 suffices in clean, dry rooms; Type 12’s gasketed seal pays off once dust, lint, or oil drip is present. The step cost is small compared to re-specifying later.

    What does the X in 4X mean?

    Corrosion resistance — typically via 316 stainless, certain coatings, or fiberglass. Same water protection as Type 4, plus salt and chemical durability.

    Where do I start for an outdoor site?

    Rain-only economy is 3R; wind and sleet push to Type 3; any hose washing requires 4/4X; flood exposure moves to Type 6. The detail pages below compare each step.
