Pad Mounted Transformer

A pad mounted transformer is a ground-level distribution transformer sealed inside a locked, tamper-resistant steel cabinet, set on a concrete pad next to the load it serves. Utilities, commercial complexes, industrial parks, data centers and renewable generation sites use them to step medium distribution voltage down to low-voltage service — outdoors, at grade, without a fenced substation.

What is the difference between dead-front and live-front construction?

Dead-front units keep all live parts behind insulated bushing wells and elbow connectors, so switching is done with hot-line tools from outside the cabinet — the standard for public-facing utility locations. Live-front exposes spade terminals inside the compartment, which simplifies inspection and termination at fenced or restricted sites. Tell us where the unit will sit and we configure the front accordingly.

Should I choose oil-filled or dry-type pad mounted construction?

Mineral-oil units cost less per kVA and suit most outdoor installations; ester fluid adds fire safety and environmental benefits near buildings or water. Dry-type removes fluid handling entirely and fits indoor or emissions-sensitive locations. We can quote both routes so you can compare total owning cost before committing.

Can you build to our utility standard or project drawings?

Yes — manufacturing to customer drawings is our default way of working. Send your single-line diagram with impedance, BIL, tap range and enclosure requirements, and our engineers confirm every parameter in a written quotation before production starts.

What is the lead time for a pad mounted transformer?

Lead time depends on rated power, fluid choice and the test schedule for your order, so we confirm an exact delivery date together with your quotation instead of quoting a generic number. Repeat specifications and batch orders are normally scheduled tighter than first-run custom builds.

Do the units meet efficiency regulations?
