Hermetically sealed or conservator type — which should I order?
Sealed tanks weld the oil in for life: no breather, no moisture management, ideal for unattended and lightly loaded sites. Conservator tanks let the oil breathe through a desiccant breather and suit heavier cyclic loading, hot climates and units you want to monitor through oil tests — the Buchholz relay also requires a conservator. Duty profile and maintenance access decide.
Mineral oil or ester fluid — what is the trade-off?
Mineral oil is the economical default with a century of service history. Natural and synthetic esters cost more per litre but raise fire points dramatically and biodegrade — valued near waterways, inside buildings and in environmentally sensitive permits. We quote both fluids so the comparison is on numbers.
Which protection devices come with the tank?
Conservator units take the classic package — Buchholz relay, oil and winding temperature indicators, pressure relief. Sealed units rely on temperature indication and pressure monitors instead. Protection scope is configured per project; tell us how the unit will be watched in service and we set the package to match.
How much maintenance does the oil need?
Conservator units need periodic oil sampling — dielectric strength, moisture and dissolved gas analysis on critical units — plus breather desiccant checks. Sealed tanks reduce this to visual inspection and periodic parameter review. We ship a maintenance schedule matched to the tank type you order.
