Define features by project function
Control-panel features should support the process, operator, service, and environment. A long component list is less useful than a clear definition of I/O, access, heat, cable entry, control power, alarms, and documentation.
Features to plan

| Environment and cooling | How will temperature, dust, moisture, and maintenance be handled? |
| Drawings and records | What schematics, layouts, schedules, backups, and test records are required? |
